The Entertainment law team led by Sam Coppola and Jon Mechanic has advised the media and entertainment branch of the Royal Bank of Canada in connection with multiple single-picture film financing transactions. Such transactions have involved the financing of federal Canadian and provincial tax credits as well as pre-sales and distribution or broadcast licenses. As part of the work, the team drafted and negotiated various loan and film security documentation as well as negotiated the intercreditor ranking of the bank with various other financiers, including bridge and gap lenders.
Furthermore, Sam Coppola and Jon Mechanic represented and advised the Royal Bank of Canada on a multimillion senior corporate credit facility for the Reel One/Premiere Bobine group of companies. The facility involved the coordination by the firm, with a major international law firm, to put in place the loan and security to facilitate film production across various provinces in Canada, various states in the USA and to finance and secure the worldwide distribution receivables generated from Canada, the USA and the United Kingdom.
